History
On June 29, 1881, the city of Temple became a town on the edge of the Texas Blackland Prairie. By 1900 the population had already reached over 7,000 people. The First Baptist Church of Temple, which at that time was located at the corner of Main Street and Barton in downtown Temple, began to see a need for a ministry in what was then called West Temple. From 1903 to 1913 the First Baptist Church had a part in supporting this new mission until it became a church in 1913.

Sometime in early 1913, a resolution was drafted and sent to the First Baptist Church of Temple that the name of this church be “Emmanuel Baptist Church” of Temple, Texas.

June 14, 1914, the church voted to change the name of the church from Emmanuel Baptist Church to Freeman Heights Baptist Church.

One other very significant event occurred on May 26, 1935, when the church voted by a “hearty and unanimous vote” to change the name of Freeman Heights Baptist Church to Immanuel Baptist Church.

Immanuel Baptist Church started a mission church in 1977 located on South 31st named Canyon Creek Baptist Church which became independent in 1980.

On Sunday, August 24th 2003, Immanuel Baptist Church celebrated the 90th year of service to the Lord here in this community and around the world.
