When I think about Fall I think about new friends.  I guess it goes back to new school years, and the opportunity to get to know new people.  As we gear up to invite people to Harvest Sunday, I am once again thinking about "new friends."  May the Holy Spirit help His church, the bride of Christ, as we together invite people to "come."

Unfortunately Caleb's truck is going to need its transmission rebuilt.  The transmission transfers the energy from the engine to get to the wheels.  So I was wondering today what plays the role in my spiritual life of the transmission between the power of God and the day-to-day work God wants to accomplish in my life?  How would the phrase, "Get it in gear" apply to me today?

We have succesfully incorporated a new puppy into our back yard.  At first we were worried that Jet, our big alpha male dog, was going to hurt or kill the puppy.  Now I am more concerned that the puppy is going to pester big Jet to death.  Everything he does the puppy does too.  Nothing is cuter than a puppy bouncing around and playing and being curious about everything.

Last week we had a wonderful VBS including 5 children who made first time professions of faith and 10 who requested baptism and 15 who rededicated their lives.  Another number really caught my eye - we had over 100 volunteers help during the week.  That is an amazing number and speaks to how willing this church body is to do the work of ministry.  Great job!  Because of your work and Eddie's administrative abilities, everything went remarkably well.  I am praising God this morning for His work in you and through you.

Tonight I will be sharing the gospel in each Vacation Bible School class, and then each child will have the opportunity to talk one to one with a counselor.  Pray that the Holy Spirit will show each child what kind of heart he/she has:  Pure, Sad but waiting, Sad and ready, New, or Messy.  Pray for them to be willing to make the appropriate commitment.  With the older, preteen group I will be sharing a different presentation on having you name in the Lamb's book of Life.

This Saturday, most of my family and some of Elizabeth's kin are going to canoe and/or tube down the Guadalupe.  I love the giant Cypress trees and their roots reaching down into the river.

June 23

According to the calendar, summer started June 21; but somebody forgot to tell the temperature gages in central Texas.  It has already felt like summer for a while, and I am ready for fall.  It looks like I am going to have to stay "ready" for a while.  Yesterday we bought a first car for Leanne - a 2001 Corolla.  I hope it carries her through college, in other words until she can buy her own second car.  I loved seeing her delight in the car.  A father loves to give gifts to his children.  How much more does our Father in heaven delight in giving good gifts to us.  Lets think about it and be grateful.

Summer is here and we have more opportunities to invest in our families.  I remember coach Landry saying, "God first, family second, and football third."  I love my wife and kids and enjoy being around them!
