Your Great Commission
The Great Commission found in Matthew 28 reveals the core purpose for every Christian: making disciples of all nations. This isn't a specialized calling for religious professionals but the fundamental mission of anyone who follows Jesus. From the very beginning of His ministry, Jesus defined discipleship as not only following Him but also bringing others along—telling fishermen He would make them 'fishers of men.' Fulfilling this mission involves four key elements: going into the world rather than waiting for people to come to us, making disciples by helping others follow Jesus, baptizing them as a public declaration of faith, and teaching them to observe (not just know) Jesus' commands. This mission requires choosing faith and obedience over fear and doubt—an ongoing decision rather than a one-time choice. What makes this mission possible is Jesus' authority and presence. He declares that all authority in heaven and earth belongs to Him, and He promises to be with us always as we make disciples. This presence is especially experienced when we actively engage in disciple-making. While other aspects of Christian life—worship, fellowship, prayer—will continue in heaven, making disciples can only happen during our time on earth. This explains our purpose here: we are Christ's representatives, continuing His mission to seek and save the lost and call people to follow Him. When we align with this purpose, everything else in our Christian walk falls into place.
